Introduction to Nonprofit Board Service

Date and time: Wednesday, April 20, 4:00-5:30 pm
Location: Rhode Island Foundation, One Union Station, Providence, RI
Audience: New and existing board members
Presenter: Jill Pfitzenmayer

In this workshop, participants will learn the fundamentals of nonprofit governance. We will challenge assumptions about board work, cover basic responsibilities of boards, address governance best practices, and offer tools to help you be a strong board member. This is an interactive program that should answer all your questions about nonprofit boards. This workshop targets new board members or anyone hoping to brush up on their board skills.

This workshop will be held in-person at the Rhode Island Foundation. We are not offering a zoom option at this time.

Capacity Building Session in South County

Location: Jonnycake Center for Hope, 22 Kersey Road, Peace Dale, RI
Audience: Nonprofit board and staff members

Please join us for a special program designed to bring nonprofit board and staff members together to tackle challenges posed by the pandemic. Our capacity building team will be at the Jonnycake Center for Hope in Peace Dale. Join us for one program, for lunch, or for all three.

11:00 am-12:00 pm: Successful Strategies for Board Recruitment

We will cover recruitment best practices to help your board attract and retain strong board members. Participants will have an opportunity to pose specific challenges and share success stories.

12:00-12:30 pm: Lunch and Networking

12:30-1:30 pm: How to Host a Successful Event for your Nonprofit
(Keith Tavares – facilitator)
We will cover important steps needed for a successful event, to include goal identification, planning and implementation. Participants will have an opportunity to pose specific challenges and share success stories.

Know Your Donors and How to Ask Them for Money

Date and time: Wednesday, May 25, 4:00-5:30 pm
Location: Rhode Island Foundation, One Union Station, Providence, RI
Audience: Nonprofit board members and those seeking donor support strategies
Presenter: Keith Tavares

In this workshop, participants will learn how nonprofit boards can identify potential donors, as well as create and implement strategies to ask them for financial support. We will discuss how organizations can discover and leverage their connections in order to strategically ask for donations. This is an interactive program that will provide guidance on the advance planning and then asking for donor support. This workshop is for nonprofit board members or anyone hoping to learn about fundraising strategies.
