Ted Long and George Matouk Jr. have been named to the Board of Directors of the Rhode Island Foundation. As the state’s largest funder of nonprofits, the Foundation awarded a record $93 million in grants to more than 2,500 organizations last year.

"They are outstanding additions to an already engaged and accomplished board. Their remarkable background and the scope of their experience will enable us to continue moving ahead on work such as improving public education, promoting sustainability, supporting civic and cultural life, eliminating health disparities and ensuring economic mobility for all Rhode Islanders," said David N. Cicilline, the Foundation’s president and CEO.

Long is a partner at Holland & Knight LLP, a leading global law firm with over 2,200 attorneys and professionals. Long has broad experience representing investors, investment funds and companies at all stages of growth.

His pro-bono legal work has focused on the formation of charities in Rhode Island, including the Rhode Island Black Women Lawyers Association and the South County Star. In addition, he is a founding member of the Board of Directors of Providence Preparatory Charter School (PVD Prep), a public charter middle school; he previously served as chair of the board of the former Rhode Island Public Radio and on the board of the Slater Center for Interactive Technology and EngageRI as well as on the Advisory Board of the Rhode Island Job Corps Center.

Each of those endeavors relies on the programs and expertise of the Foundation to stimulate education, civic engagement, access to justice and opportunity for all,” said Long. "It is a tremendous privilege to join the Foundation's Board to directly help advance its extraordinary mission to mobilize generosity and motivate change that makes a difference."

Long earned a J.D. at the Antonin Scalia School of Law at George Mason University and a BA in Policy Management Studies at Dickinson College. He is an alumnus of Leadership Rhode Island. Long lives in Providence with his wife, Melissa A. Long, where they raised their three children.

Matouk is CEO of John Matouk & Co., a third-generation, family-owned luxury textile manufacturer founded in 1929 and headquartered in Fall River, Mass. Since assuming leadership of the company in the early 2000s, Matouk has overseen a period of sustained growth and modernization, investing heavily in domestic manufacturing, workforce development, technology and infrastructure.

In addition, Matouk formerly served on the Providence School Board and the board of the Gordon School.

Matouk earned an MBA at Columbia University and a BA at Vanderbilt University.

They join the Foundation as it comes off a near-record year of fundraising, reporting $82 million in gifts in 2025, the third highest performance in the organization’s 110-year history. At year-end, total assets stood at approximately $1.7 billion. Total fund investment return for the year was 16.2 percent.
