Fair Funding for Rhode Island's Schools: What it means, Why it matters, and What you can do

The Blue Ribbon Commission, 18 Rhode Island leaders including educators, parents, municipal officials, union representatives, charter school supporters, and community advocates, spent a year studying Rhode Island's school funding and reached a full consensus on four reforms. 

An update on Fair Funding Reform for Rhode Island's Schools:

The Blue Ribbon Commission's push for fairer education funding is moving forward, and we are pleased to share important updates: both the House and Senate voted to pass a joint resolution creating a special legislative commission to continue this work. This is a foundational and meaningful step toward a funding system that works better for every student in the state.

There's still work ahead, but the momentum is real, and we will continue to need community members like you every step of the way. Rhode Island's students are counting on us to see this through, and we look forward to continuing this work together.

The comprehensive school funding system presented in the Commission’s full report is built on a consensus vision of equity and fiscal accountability. It establishes the foundation necessary to meet the state’s responsibility to its students and all Rhode Islanders. By adopting these recommendations, the state will secure an effective, predictable, student-centered education funding system that drives economic growth and enables all children to receive the world-class education they deserve.
