The Rhode Island Foundation, with support from the Providence Department of Art, Culture and Tourism, the Providence Parks Department, the Roger Williams Park Conservancy, Washington Trust and KLR, is inviting the public to a free performance of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra’s RWP Pops Concert at the Roger Williams Park Temple to Music on Wednesday, August 5, beginning at 7 p.m.

“Along with our partners, we are inviting Rhode Islanders to what has become an annual event for thousands of our neighbors,” said David N. Cicilline, president and CEO of the Rhode Island Foundation. “Supporting Civic and Cultural Life is one of the community priorities that are central to our work. We all benefit when people can come together to share common experiences. There is no better place to build community than in one of the state’s most beloved spots.”

This year's concert, Outstanding Overtures, celebrates some of the most beloved overtures from Broadway, film and classical music. Conducted by audience favorite Troy Quinn, the 69-piece orchestra will perform two 40-minute sets.

During intermission, the Foundation will present three of its most prestigious annual awards on the Temple to Music stage to the following remarkable individuals:

Civic Leadership Award: Peter Chung, Executive Director of Young Voices

As executive director of Young Voices, Peter Chung is a powerful advocate for policy change and systemic reform across Rhode Island. Peter joined Young Voices in 2011 and has led the organization for the last six years. Beyond his work with young people at the Providence-based nonprofit, Peter is an alumnus of the Rhode Island Foundation's Equity Leadership Initiative and recently served on the Foundation's Blue Ribbon Commission, helping shape recommendations to reform Rhode Island's education funding formula.

Community Leadership Award: Conexion Latina Newport

The Newport-based nonprofit helps the local Latino community find support, celebrate culture, and build stronger communities across Aquidneck Island. Through programs like Festival Latino, Mujeres Poderosas and the Latino Parent Advisory Committee, Conexion Latina Newport connects parents to schools, guides families to health care, and prepares the community for civic involvement.

The Trailblazer Award: Pamela Johnston, President & CEO of Ocean State Media

As President & CEO of Ocean State Media, Pam Johnston led the unification of Rhode Island PBS and The Public’s Radio to create a single, statewide public media organization serving audiences across platforms and communities. Pam leads Ocean State Media with a bold, community-centered, audience-first vision for local journalism and storytelling—grounded in trust, listening, and deep local connection.

In addition to the concert, food trucks will be onsite at the Temple to Music serving local, regional and global cuisine. Free parking is available throughout Roger Williams Park. Details are available here.
