Zach Nieder named strategic program officer for Health

“Zach’s diverse experience in the study and practice of health care make him a natural to lead one of our strategic priorities,” said Jessica David, the Foundation’s executive vice president of strategy and community investments.

Zach Nieder has been appointed a strategic initiative officer at the Rhode Island Foundation, where he will be responsible for leading the Foundation’s activities and grantmaking in the Health sector.

“Zach’s diverse experience in the study and practice of health care make him a natural to lead one of our strategic priorities,” said Jessica David, the Foundation’s executive vice president of strategy and community investments. “He recognizes the role of philanthropy in initiating community change and is invested in improving the health of every Rhode Islander.”

Most recently, Nieder was an associate director at the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City in Boston. Previous to that, he was a senior associate at The American City Coalition in Boston.

Nieder earned a B.A. in modern history at the University of Saint Andrews and an M.S. in health policy and management at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

He joins the Foundation as it comes off a year of record fundraising and grantmaking. Over the past five years, the Foundation has awarded more than $216 million in grants.

The Foundation focuses on three strategic priorities: educational success, economic security, and healthy lives. In addition, it also supports arts and culture, basic human needs, the environment, and housing among other sectors through its responsive grants program.

The Rhode Island Foundation is the largest and most comprehensive funder of nonprofit organizations in Rhode Island.
