Foundation names Peter Phillips to Board of Directors

Washington Trust Wealth Management executive joins illustrious board

Peter R. Phillips has been named to the Board of Directors of the Rhode Island Foundation. As the state’s largest funder of nonprofit organizations, the Foundation awards tens of millions of dollars in grants to thousands of nonprofits annually.

“We are very pleased that Peter is joining our Board. With an endowment that is now more than $1 billion, the Foundation will benefit from Peter’s impressive record of senior leadership, professional investment management skill and strong community involvement. His assessments will help the Foundation focus even more effectively on achieving our strategic priorities of educational success, healthy lives and economic security for all Rhode Islanders,” said Polly Wall, who chairs the board.

Phillips is Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer at Washington Trust Wealth Management, one of the region’s premier wealth management firms with more than $6.4 billion in assets under administration. Phillips oversees investment research for Washington Trust Wealth Management, supporting proprietary equity strategies and the dissemination of key investment information across business lines. He chairs the Equity Strategy and Trade Management and Oversight committees.

The North Kingstown resident is a member of the investment committees of Care New England Health System and Save the Bay. He is a past president of the CFA Society Providence and an adjunct instructor of securities analysis at Bryant University. He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and communications at Syracuse University and an M.S. in finance with high distinction from Bentley College. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst charter-holder.
