Ever since our beginnings in 1916, generous Rhode Islanders have contributed to the Foundation’s “discretionary” dollars, in other words, funds with few or no restrictions.

With income from those endowments, the Foundation employs a talented staff who identify both the best of Rhode Island that needs preserving, and the challenges we must meet to make Rhode Island better.

We call our goal for that aspect of the Foundation’s work "Attaining Vibrant Communities: A Partnership with Rhode Island".

What is a "vibrant community"? It's many things. Vibrant communities are diverse and inclusive places where individuals are supported and encouraged to realize their personal and collective potential. And more.
