About Us

For the professional advisor working with charitable clients, the Foundation offers:

1. A cost-free resource for charitable planning.
For more than 90 years, The Rhode Island Foundation has worked with professional advisors in every venue to help their clients with their charitable planning.

2. An ego-free partner that enhances your practice.
The Foundation benefits from the strongest possible relationship between you and your client, so the Foundation will never eclipse your role, but rather enhance it. We can work entirely in the background, for example, until and unless you wish us to meet your client. Or we can attend every meeting with you. Your choice.

3. Accredited seminars, a quarterly newsletter, an award-winning website, an annual advisor award, and professional gatherings. And it's all FREE!
The Foundation offers several accredited workshops each year featuring the latest information on charitable giving strategies and laws.

We also offer:

  • GiftLaw Pro, a 24-hour web presence that provides a constantly updated compendium of federal charitable tax law geared just to you,
  • several networking opportunities each year for you to meet your colleagues in a relaxed atmosphere, including the annual Soloveitzik Award for the professional advisor who most embodies professional and personal service to charitable giving.

The Foundation's work with lawyers, accountants, and insurance and financial service professionals, is advised by a 17-member Professional Advisory Council.

4. Association with American Funds and Merrill-Lynch.
The Rhode Island Foundation now has opportunities for professional advisors to recommend fund establishment at the Foundation that will keep you in the forefront with your client and you receive compensation in the process.

5. Association with the state's premier center for giving.
Since 1916, The Rhode Island Foundation has been the state's premier center for all matters philanthropic. Today we are the stewards for more than 1,000 individual endowments totaling more than $600 million of the end of 2007, and grant more than $25 million annually. You can play a key role in this important state resource.
